This policy explains what Stash does and doesn't do with your data. Questions or requests are always welcome at studysource02@gmail.com.
What stays on your device
The sources you save, their links, titles, any highlighted text, and your history and settings are stored locally in your browser. They are never transmitted to us or to any third party.
What we collect
1. Anonymous usage and performance data (on by default). We collect coarse, low-detail signals to keep the extension working well: whether an automation run succeeds, roughly how long it takes, anonymous error reports (a short category of what went wrong, never the page you were on), which capture features are used (in aggregate), your browser's interface language, and your choice about the optional analytics below. This data carries no lasting identifier. It uses a temporary ID that resets regularly and cannot be used to track you over time. It never includes your links, page content, or any personal information. Because this ID resets, we don't retain a way to link separate sessions together; the signals are aggregated and not stored in a form tied to any one person over time.
2. Optional analytics (off by default, only if you opt in). If you turn this on in Settings, we attach a random identifier so we can understand usage patterns over time, for example how often features are used and how usage varies between occasional and frequent users. This also covers basic lifecycle signals: when the extension is installed, updated, or uninstalled. This helps us improve the extension and plan future features. We collect only coarse, bucketed figures, never your content. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, and you can see your random identifier there.
3. Feedback you choose to send. If you submit feedback, we receive your message, any category or star rating you select, an optional email address if you provide one, your browser version, and a random identifier. We use this only to respond to you and to improve the extension.
Service providers and where data is processed
Usage data is processed through our own gateway and our analytics provider, PostHog, on servers located in the European Union. Your IP address is not stored; an approximate country is derived at the network level and is associated only with the optional, opted-in analytics. Where any data is processed outside your own country, we rely on the safeguards recognized under applicable data protection law (such as the EU's adequacy framework) to allow that transfer.
Security
Data in transit to our service providers is encrypted, and access to any data we hold is limited to what's needed to run and improve the Service.
What we never do
We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never share it with data brokers or other resellers. Our use of any data obtained complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices
- Turn the optional analytics on or off at any time in the extension's Settings.
- The on-by-default usage data is anonymous and not tied to you; if you prefer, you can disable analytics entirely in Settings.
- To request deletion of feedback or opted-in analytics associated with your random identifier, contact us at studysource02@gmail.com.
Data retention
We keep opted-in analytics for up to 12 months, long enough to see a full yearly cycle of usage and no longer. Feedback (including any email you provide) is kept until your request is resolved, then deleted. The default-on anonymous signals are kept only in aggregate form once the temporary ID behind them resets, so they're no longer tied to any individual session. Anonymous, aggregated figures that cannot be tied to anyone may be kept longer.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under your local data protection law (such as the EU/UK GDPR, California's CCPA, Kenya's Data Protection Act, or an equivalent law elsewhere) to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold about you (such as opted-in analytics tied to your random identifier, or feedback you've sent), and to object to or restrict how it's processed. If your local law gives you the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, this policy doesn't limit that right. To exercise any of these with us directly, contact studysource02@gmail.com.
Children's privacy
Stash isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age for consent).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; we will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, note them in the extension or on this page.
